They drove silver spaceship through the night, staying off of main roads whenever possible. The stars were bright above them and the Milky Way a glittering blanket across the sky. A few times Elija caught sight of shooting stars and wondered if any of those were coming their way. As they got closer to the planet, however, she realized that the streaks weren't falling from space—they were falling towards the horizon. They were missiles firing from the city.
